Your Mission
Turn a simple folded-paper chooser into a cooperative story game where every player can steer the next surprising detail.
What You'll Need
- One square sheet of paper per fortune teller
- Pencil or marker
- Optional crayons or colored pencils
How to Do the Quest
- 1
Agree on a make-believe story setting, such as a moonlit bakery or a tiny island library, and keep every prompt playful, kind, and easy to pass on.
- 2
Place a square sheet face down. Fold it in half in both directions and open it; bring all four corners to the center crease, turn the paper over, and fold the new four corners to the center again.
- 3
Fold the square in half each way to crease it, open it, and gently push the four outside corners together so the flaps form pockets for your fingers.
- 4
Write four colors or simple symbols on the outside. Under the flaps, add numbers; inside, write eight short story choices such as a helpful visitor, a curious sound, or a surprising but harmless discovery.
- 5
One player picks an outside color or symbol. Open and close the teller once for each letter, then let the player choose a visible number and reveal the matching story spark.
- 6
Add the revealed idea as one sentence to the shared story. Take turns choosing, allow a pass or a different prompt at any time, and stop after a few rounds to give the story a title and a cheerful ending.
Quest Challenge
Can your group make a complete story with a beginning, a problem, and a kind solution using only three revealed prompts?
Pro Tip
Keep each prompt short enough to read through a small flap, and write a few alternatives before filling the teller so every choice feels welcoming.
Safety First
No cutting or sharing personal secrets is needed. Keep prompts kind and pretend-only, let every player pass or change a prompt without explanation, and use a larger sheet or partner-held teller if small folds are difficult.
